Father-Daughter Reiners McQuay and McCutcheon Win USET Qualifiers at the Gordyville Breeders Cup

Gladstone, New Jersey-March 18, 2002—Tim McQuay and his daughter, Mandy McCutcheon won USET Reining classes at the Gordyville Breeders Cup, held March 16, in Gifford, IL.

Tim McQuay of Tioga, TX, won the Intervet/USET Reining Championship Qualifier aboard Arc Sparkle Surprise, owned by McQuay & Arrighi, with a score of 224, winning $2423.20. McQuay edged out Scott McCutcheon, on Inwhizable Partners' Inwhizable, who scored 222 for second place, winning a check for $2050.40.

Riders in the Intervet/USET Reining Championship Qualifiers are competing for a spot in the Intervet/USET Reining Championship Semi-Finals, which will be held May 17 at the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby in Oklahoma City, OK. The top twenty riders in the Semi-Finals will advance to the USET Reining Championship, Presented by Bayer at the 2002 Bayer/USET Festival of Champions, presented by State Line Tack, to be held June 20-23, in Gladstone, NJ.

The Intervet/USET Reining Championship Qualifiers, Semi-Finals, and the Championship are all steps in the selection process to determine the United States reining team for the World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain this September.

In the USET Futures Reining Championship Qualifier, held March 16 at the Gordyville Breeders Cup, Mandy McCutcheon, Pilot Point, Texas, laid down a scorching pattern as she and Haidachino Cherry, owned by Tim & Colleen McQuay, scored 223.5 points as they out-scored the field by a dominant margin of 10 points. McCutcheon and Haidachino Cherry took home the first prize paycheck of $1227.5, while Marc Wagman on Rest Up owned by Marc Stuart Farms scored 213 points to take the second prize of $920.63.

The top four riders in the USET Futures Reining Championship Qualifier earn an invitation to compete in the USET Futures Reining Championship Final at the Bayer/USET Festival of Champions.
