British Horse Society qualifications gather pace

Following on from the highly successful Lee Valley project (see press release issued 29 January) The British Horse Society (BHS) is pleased to announce another educational project whereby students can study an equestrian qualification as part of their curriculum.

Eleven students from Paignton Community and Sports College are studying for BHS Level 1 at Sorley Riding Stables in Kingsbridge, Devon, one of the Society's approved riding schools. The course will run for a complete school year and each weekly session lasts for two and a half hours. Claire Blagdon, Paignton College's Out of Hours Co-ordinator, says, "The students really enjoy the chance to gain a qualification in something they love doing as well as taking part in a school activity. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of this course and look to make it an annual event."

BHS Training & Examinations Manager, Margaret Linington-Payne, added, "The BHS has been lobbying for years for equestrianism to be a recognised school activity that can enhance the health and education of students as well as providing a recognised qualification. We look forward to more schools linking up with BHS approved riding establishments and will continue to work towards that goal."
