Miniatures Go Big at
HOYS! 27 September - 1 October 2000, Wembley Arena Horse of the Year Show organisers announced today that a Miniature Horse Championship will be held at the event for the first time this year, reflecting the significant increase in interest in the breed. The Championship will be held on the first day of the show Wednesday 27th September 2000 and six HOYS qualifiers have been confirmed commencing in June. Mike Gill, Director of Grandstand Media Ltd. commented: "Following the ground breaking introduction in recent years of Arabs, Coloured and Intermediate Classes together with the inclusion of a broader range of Native Classes, HOYS is continuing to support increasingly popular breeds. The popularity of miniature horses has been evident at HOYS where we have witnessed an increasing interest with the visiting public over the years. With the support of the British Miniature Horse Society, we have therefore decided to introduce the Championship into the HOYS schedule and have arranged six qualifiers around the country." Wendy Edgar, Chairman of the British Miniature Horse Society (BMHS) added: "We are delighted that the Horse of the Year Show will be hosting a Miniature Horse Championship for the first time. It is surely one of the most prestigious shows to attend and enter, and will be even more exciting to achieve a win. Our society's steadily increasing membership indicates that the miniature horse is becoming more popular both as a breed and in the show ring. We would encourage as many of our members to enter the qualifying classes, so that we can assure our place at HOYS for many years to come," concluded Wendy Edgar of BMHS.
