Royal
Opening for New Equine Welfare Centre

On
Monday 23 June HRH The Princess Royal, President of the ILPH (International
League for the Protection of Horses), has kindly agreed to officially
open their new Hall Farm development at Snetterton, South Norfolk.
Her
Royal Highness will arrive on site at 12.20 and, following a short
break, will tour the new centre, meeting ILPH staff and equine residents.
Invited
guests will watch The Princess Royal unveiling a commemorative plaque
at 13.35 after which Her Royal Highness will leave for her next
engagement.

Hall Farm, Snetterton
Hall
Farm, together with Hall Farm House, and approximately 540 acres
at Snetterton, South Norfolk were purchased by the ILPH in 1986
to complement their equine welfare work already taking place just
across the A11 at Overa House Farm, Larling.
In 2001 the ILPH Council, wanting to improve visitor and equine
facilities and reduce long term operating costs, took the decision
to rationalise their Norfolk operations. This process of consolidation
involved the sale of the 28 acre site at Overa House Farm, where
expansion was not feasible, and the redevelopment of the Hall Farm
site.
Set in pretty undulating Norfolk countryside, barely a mile from
the A11, the area's main trunk road, Hall Farm with its large acreage
was the perfect site for the new Norfolk Centre.
On the 20th May 2002 May Gurney, awarded the contract by private
tender, started works on the £2m 5 acre development on land
north of the original Hall Farm site. As well as the construction
of the new Centre, works included developing a new access road and
resurfacing an existing track to allow easy access from the A11
and to reduce traffic through Snetterton village.
This new development comprises a Visitors' Centre, with coffee and
gift shops and a lecture room overlooking a large covered riding
arena, an extra 29 loose boxes as well as purpose built veterinary,
farriery and recovery boxes. Also included are staff offices, rest
room and living accommodation.
Hall Farm Equine Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre opened to the
public at Easter 2003 and was officially opened by HRH The Princess
Royal, ILPH President, on 23 June the same year.
