horse The Old Place, Mount Holly, Arkansas

August, 2001

On hard ground and blazing heat, Dr. Jim McCall and his amazing 4 year old palomino stallion, Tippy Toe Plan, won the title of Palomino World Champion Junior Cutting Horse in Tulsa, Oklahoma . The team were the last to ride in the group of cattle. Searching for three good cows to impress the judges was not an easy feat. However, this horse and rider team are always up to put on a good show. They trapped three consecutive cows in the middle and Tippy dropped down and matched the moves of the cows step by step. In spite of the limitations of the hard surface, Tippy received a round of applause from the crowd for his characteristic crowd-pleasing style of cutting.

The World Championship title was the first major win for the team. Dr. McCall has been training horses for over 40 years but the last 30 years he spent as a college professor teaching horse training and management.

During his career he taught at Texas A & M, the University of Maryland, Louisiana Tech and Southern Arkansas University.

Retiring from teaching, the McCall's returned to Mount Holly, Arkansas. There on 265 acres that has been in the family since 1884 the McCall's developed a horse farm specializing in breeding and training cutting and reining horses. The farm is aptly named The Old Place.

Tippy Toe Plan is the first cutting horse stallion trained by Dr. McCall since his retirement and the first horse that he has shown in over 18 years. The team debuted at the NCHA Cutting Futurity in December of 2001 where they were one point short of advancing to the second round. They continued to hone their showmanship through March at the Abilene and Memphis Derbies.

The middle of March brought the pair back to the farm where Tippy Toe Plan joined the other two stallions, Mr Dry Peppy and War Bars Jessie, in the breeding barn. Now with breeding season behind them, Jim and Tippy Toe Plan will continue to compete again the best 4 year old cutting horses in the country to see what additional titles they can add to the 2001 Palomino World Champion Jr Cutting Horse.
