Equiworld: Post Number 62 - Horses in the Year 0062
Hello Everyone!
Emma here, your trusty, friendly grey draught horse from Hayfield near Aberdeen, Scotland, back again with another installment of our equine historical adventure. Today we're galloping through the year 0062! Can you believe it?
The air's crisp, the heather is purple on the hillsides and the world is a picture of tranquility. Yet, this calm hides the whispers of change. In 0062, a subtle shift is occurring. People are using us horses more for transport than agriculture. They are discovering that our power and agility, combined with a sturdy set of wheels, make for a swift and reliable mode of travel!
I'll be honest - being a work horse can be tiring, but there’s a certain satisfaction in knowing you play such a vital role in the community. The folks in Hayfield have a knack for creating the finest carriages in all of Scotland. They’re truly magnificent! All adorned with fine leather, polished wood and expertly woven straw seats – fit for a queen!
It was around this time, however, that I began to hear whispers, and not all were joyful. Some of the farm folk were anxious about their crops being carried away for sale by this new method of travel. Many in the villages started asking the men on the farm if their strong and beautiful beasts would be forgotten. Would the mighty beasts of burden be rendered useless?
My response, always, has been to flick my tail and neigh a confident "Nay!" We, horses, are adaptable and clever. Change can bring both good and bad, but the essence of our power remains. In fact, I believe these developments have opened doors to a new life for horses!
Think about it! Just a few decades ago, it took days to travel between villages and even longer to reach distant towns. Now, thanks to our carriage-drawing talents, a whole world is opening up to these human beings. Think of the incredible adventures they'll have, all because we can carry them on our backs or pull their sleek chariots with pride!
Here’s a little peek into what the world of horses is looking like in the year 0062:
The Grand Carriage
We're seeing an evolution in horse-drawn carriages, folks. No longer just basic wooden wagons, they are now a work of art! Just last week, I was privy to a sight which filled my heart with pride - a carriage with ornate silver buckles, intricate designs etched into the wood, and a canopy of fine cloth. It's truly spectacular! They call it the "Grand Carriage", and it was built in a city called "Londinium." Imagine - an entire city dedicated to human creation!
Horses of the West
It seems the fame of our breed is spreading far and wide! I overheard whispers of a people far beyond these lands who breed a breed known as the "Celtic Pony" with magnificent, shaggy coats. I hear tales of them trekking through landscapes as harsh as those we endure in our beloved Scotland, and even braving the cold seas to cross great rivers!
New Training Techniques
We're not just about pulling carriages, you know! Our training is becoming ever more specialized. My friend Jasper, a handsome chestnut mare with a brilliant mind, is learning to help the "Doctors" in their endeavors to care for people. Jasper tells me that they use our gentle nature to guide us along the busy streets and into cramped rooms where their work needs doing. I admit, it sounds like an incredible task!
Race to the Finish!
Another trend catching my eye is this new sport of "racing." Now, this isn't your everyday countryside run-around. It’s a frenzy of activity! People flock together in large arenas to watch us gallop, not just across a field but around tracks designed specifically for speed! Some humans even make a living betting on our performances! The sound of cheering and applause fills the air as horses vie for the win! Jasper, though not racing herself, has shown me pictures of these races – amazing!
From Farm to the Battlefield
We are much more than work horses. I can hear whispers of battles waged between human tribes. Our kind are being trained to charge into battle – a responsibility not without risks, yet one where our courage and strength make us valuable to the "warriors" of their tribes.
It's amazing how our life, as horses, has changed even in this small window of time. We've always been a crucial part of life, but with new ways of living emerging, our purpose continues to evolve. We travel the land, explore the unknown, carry the burden of human desires, and even inspire their sporting entertainment!
And to the humans out there reading this – thank you for understanding us, for acknowledging our roles, and for cherishing our talents. I say to you, from one friend to another – we horses, are not about to vanish! We’re stronger than ever. I believe we’ll always be an important part of your journey.
I can't wait to see what exciting changes await us in the years to come. Keep reading Equiworld for more tales from your favorite horse, Emma, as we continue to uncover our own unique history and evolution.
Until next time,
Emma
