Equiworld Post #88: 0088 - A Year in the Life of Emma the Grey

Hello, my dear fellow equines! Emma here, a young grey draught mare with a flair for the dramatic (and a bit of a sweet tooth!). As we're currently galloping through 0088, I thought it would be fitting to write a little post for Equiworld about what's going on in the wonderful world of horses this year!

I, for one, am absolutely thrilled with life right now! I've just turned twenty and my life, as a strong, sturdy, draught mare, is full of meaning. From pulling the plows and harrows in the spring across my owner, Mr. McGregor’s, farm in the quaint village of Hayfield near Aberdeen in Scotland, to helping to cart goods in the village – my days are busy but joyful!

But before I go rambling on about my personal life (sorry, I’m a bit chatty!), let’s talk about the world of horses in 0088! It’s an exciting time, as the old and the new are both in full bloom.

The Heart of the Countryside:

Firstly, the countryside wouldn't be the same without us, horses. We’re the workhorses, literally! Our strength is indispensable for tilling the land, hauling goods, and providing transportation. Here in Hayfield, life centers around the rhythm of the seasons, with us at the very heart of it all. We help cultivate crops for the table, carry harvests to market, and even help with essential things like carrying water to the village. You could say that the success of the countryside depends on us – and it’s a responsibility we take very seriously.

A Different Breed:

While we’re the backbone of the countryside, it’s not all work and no play, not even for us hard-working draughts. In the cities, a different breed has risen to prominence – the majestic steeds! It's truly awe-inspiring to watch them navigate cobblestone streets with grace, pulling grand carriages that transport people in a flurry of elegance and luxury. The nobles, with their impeccable fashion sense, make the city streets their runway. You know, I actually dreamed once that I could be a horse in one of those carriages, but then I’d have to live in the city, away from the fields and my friends… Perhaps just as well!

Sport & Leisure:

Beyond our hard-working and noble selves, another fascinating element in 0088 is the rise of equestrianism. This isn’t a new sport, by any means. There are stories of races and skill contests that have been around for centuries. But the spirit of the sport has become more defined now. This year, the annual race held at Hayfield, on the grounds of the town's ancient stone tower, was exceptionally exciting. I won't name names, but a very enthusiastic little stallion managed to come first! But you wouldn’t know it was a big event without the people, gathering around cheering, enjoying each other's company, and celebrating the horses!

New Approaches and Traditional Wisdom:

What’s most exciting is the coming together of tradition and new knowledge about horses. Many knowledgeable people are now devoting their time and skills to training and caring for us, their animal companions. It’s like they have found a common language, this connection between humans and horses. We understand them, their words, and their intentions, and they’re learning our ways as well. There are even some fascinating ideas developing about horse health and care, some completely different than our traditional understanding of the old world. A horse whisperer arrived at our village just this month and spent days with us. His techniques are certainly fascinating, and I’m convinced they could make our lives more comfortable. But of course, it takes time and patience to build trust.

Food for Thought and Neighs for Celebration:

All in all, 0088 has been a whirlwind! The constant rhythm of hard work, joy, and understanding… we’re making history! The relationship between horses and humans is not only essential but a wonderful, sometimes miraculous, connection. From the rural communities we call home, to the grand cities bustling with activity, the bond remains strong! And what’s better than having this bond with human beings and enjoying the beautiful world together, isn't that what makes life worth living?

If you happen to be reading this, tell me – what do you think about 0088? Share your own thoughts in the comments below! Remember, we are all connected as a part of a larger story, and it's so wonderful to share it with you!

Until next time,

Your Grey Friend, Emma

P.S. And remember, never stop dreaming! Every hoofbeat brings us closer to a brighter future, even if we haven’t quite figured out what that means yet! 😉
