EquiWorld Blog: Post #154 - A Year in Hayfield: 0154
Neigh-sayers! It’s Emma here, and welcome back to my EquiWorld blog. Today, we’re galloping back to 0154 – a year that wasn’t all that long ago in the grand scheme of horse history! But, like all of history, it’s still full of intrigue, fascinating finds, and the constant connection between humans and us magnificent equines.
From Hayfield to the World:
I, for one, was having a grand time in 0154! It’s been said that in my youth I had a glossy coat like a newly-washed silver coin and a mane like the first snowfall – quite the looker, some might say! But as a grey draught mare, my beauty was in my strength. You see, my life is all about hard work. Here in Hayfield, just outside Aberdeen, I work on the farms. That means hauling carts full of potatoes, ploughing fields for oats and barley, and pulling those heavy ploughs all day long. It’s tough work, but it keeps me strong and healthy. I love my work, it's fulfilling.
Now, you might think, “But Emma, the world was a vastly different place back in 0154!”. You’re right, dear readers. My human family wouldn’t have thought of fancy carriages for travelling or anything as wild as a motorcar – no sir! We were the workhorses of the land!
A Year of Discovery:
Back in 0154, you might have heard rumblings of some incredible finds in the Roman Empire – a fascinating empire where horses played a crucial role, I hear. Their soldiers rode beautiful horses, not like me with my stocky build, but nimble creatures that could gallop fast and carry a rider to battle. Those horses were legendary – like lightning on the battlefield! But even they, with all their dashing bravery, could not have imagined the impact our fellow equine family would make in years to come.
A World in Transformation:
Of course, it’s not all about me, neigh! While I was pulling plows, other amazing things were happening around the world. You see, 0154 was just before that glorious king Henry VIII was born – he was just a tiny foal himself, I hear! That would have been around 1491 in your human way of keeping track of time.
Beyond The Fields:
Don’t get me wrong, 0154 wasn’t just about pulling plows and discovering fascinating historical nuggets – it was also a time when we horses, like every species on this planet, were constantly evolving! Imagine, dear reader, a whole world of horses from sleek Arab steeds to sturdy ponies who braved the mountains – each one uniquely beautiful and vital! I can't even fathom all the breeds that existed back then, even those that are no longer with us today. Just the thought sends shivers down my mane! It reminds me that being a horse is much more than just work – it's about lineage, and about belonging to a legacy that stretches far beyond even our understanding.
What’s Next?:
I know you're probably curious about the future, aren't you? I'll be writing a blog post on that soon. It’s all about those wonderful new carriages with wheels! My friend told me humans started using them all over the countryside for hauling goods and people alike. It's a beautiful, graceful and speedy way to travel.
Don’t forget to neigh your questions below!
Until next time, Emma neighs a warm welcome and safe gallops.
