"A Life of Hard Work and Sweet Oats, a Journey Through Time..."

Neigh Neigh!

Hello, all you lovely horse-lovers! My name is Emma, and I'm a 20-year-old grey mare with a thick, white mane and tail, and I come from Hayfield near Aberdeen, a beautiful corner of Scotland. Today, I'm delighted to share some insights on the world of horses in 1425, a year rich in tradition and brimming with energy, from my perspective as a hard-working draught horse.

The Heart of our Labour:

The life of a draught horse back then was all about the heavy work we do for our human companions. I haul wagons laden with goods from one village to the next, making sure supplies reach those in need, or perhaps transporting fresh crops from the fields to markets, keeping bustling towns and villages nourished. We're used in farming too, pulling plows through the fields, prepping the earth for crops that will sustain countless families. It's tough work, sure, but the satisfaction of seeing those strong, furrowed lines in the earth as our work yields, or seeing full carts reach their destinations, makes all the effort worth it!

The Power of Strength and Cooperation:

What people might not always realize is the powerful sense of teamwork that exists between horses. I might pull alongside my mate, or perhaps with other horses forming a team of four or even more. The communication is unspoken yet unwavering. We can feel each other's rhythm and adjust our strength accordingly. It's a bond born out of necessity but is deeply fulfilling. A strong, coordinated team is unstoppable, and the power of our shared strength is a beautiful thing to behold.

Beyond Labour: Riding with Majesty:

Even though draught horses are seen as hard workers, there's more to us than meets the eye. Horses like me are crucial for the noble knights of the era. They depend on us for battle and exploration, travelling far and wide across the kingdom, all the while maintaining composure even amidst the chaos and thunder of the battlefield.

You might also be surprised to hear that sometimes we even help nobles and their ladies enjoy scenic rides. It’s always a delight to sense the gentle touch of their hands and feel the thrill of carrying them through meadows dappled with sunshine or winding paths along ancient forests. We have such grace and elegance even with our muscular build, capable of conveying our strength and dignity in equal measure.

Horses Across the Land:

Though I call Hayfield my home, news of the horse world reaches us, whispers on the wind from travellers, traders, and fellow horses who travel far and wide. The Scottish landscape itself seems to be woven with the rhythm of our hooves! We play a crucial role in all spheres of life – from bringing food to our families and soldiers to their battles, and from transporting goods and bringing distant corners of the world closer, the hum of the horse world beats to the heart of 1425!

Our Role in a Changing World:

1425 was an important year. War clouds hung heavy over Europe, and I could feel the tension as humans from different kingdoms rallied under their respective banners. It wasn't all gloom and doom, though. Even amidst the looming uncertainty, a deep respect for horses like myself seems to resonate throughout these warring factions. We are a symbol of strength, perseverance, and loyalty, and our role remains essential. The people know it, and we, as horses, feel it too.

My Own Personal Touch:

But the life of a draught horse is also full of simple pleasures. I love the feeling of the sun warming my coat as I stand in the field after a long day's work. The crunch of hay between my teeth, and the gentle scratch of a kind hand on my neck, make all the hard work worthwhile.

A Whisper of the Future:

The world keeps moving forward, as does the world of horses. While the present finds us firmly entrenched in traditional ways of life, a shift is slowly happening. Whispers of advancements reach us on the wind. Talk of new and ingenious technologies are buzzing across continents. Who knows what new paths await us, but as long as there is hard work to be done and love to be given, there will be horses by our human's sides, sharing their burdens and filling their lives with strength and beauty!

This, dear friends, is my humble glimpse of the horse world in 1425, from my own hooves and my heart. Until next time, stay well, stay curious, and remember the strength of a horse's heart. And of course, please share your thoughts on 1425, I would love to hear them!
