EquiWorld Blog: Post 2012 - A Year in Horse History by Emma of Hayfield
Hello fellow equine enthusiasts! It's Emma here, your grey draught mare from the windswept fields of Hayfield near Aberdeen, Scotland. As I reach the grand age of twenty, my thoughts keep turning to the fascinating tapestry of our shared history.
This year, 2012, feels monumental, not only for humans but also for us horses. We continue to gallop across the pages of history, our hooves leaving behind an indelible imprint on every era.
The Games of Might and Grace
Oh, the stories I heard of this year! The whispers and snorts, the joyous neighs and the triumphant whinnies – they filled the stable with excitement. You see, 2012 saw the "Summer Games" take place in London, a gathering of the greatest athletes in the world! And we horses? We were right in the heart of the action!
Humans were buzzing with the feats of strength and agility that were demonstrated in all kinds of sporting disciplines. But our equine hearts soared when we heard about the incredible performances of our fellow horses, participating in the awe-inspiring discipline of dressage. The humans described the movements of grace and precision as poetry in motion – imagine that! I, for one, find it hard to imagine a more elegant spectacle than a horse and its human partner dancing together.
My old stablemate, a beautiful black mare called Blackthorn, told me stories of how horses were even involved in the ceremony that opened the games! It sounds quite amazing! The humans talked of their horses with a love that shines through in their voices – and who can blame them? A partnership between horse and human built on mutual trust and understanding, that's a bond truly worthy of admiration.
The Olympic Flame of Courage
You know, it made me proud, that spirit of camaraderie that burns within the equestrian community – that's something we can truly be proud of, a shared understanding that transcends human languages and cultures. I heard tales of brave horses, overcoming adversity, of resilience in the face of challenging courses and demanding events.
There was a particular bay mare, a magnificent specimen from Germany, named Totilas. He is described as a legend, a true champion, capable of incredible movements that left humans spellbound. What an inspiration! The stories that floated in from London told of the crowd roaring in approval for these horses and their riders. To know that such extraordinary talent is admired, celebrated, that just fills me with such a warm feeling inside.
And beyond dressage, other disciplines thrived too – the thrill of jumping fences, the stamina of endurance riding, the precision of eventing – these tales all contributed to the fabric of this magical year.
A Symphony of Strides
Here at Hayfield, life carries on its quiet rhythm. The Scottish breeze whips through my mane, and I hear the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves on the cobblestone roads, a gentle reminder of how much we rely on one another for life’s necessities.
But for me, there’s something special about 2012 – it's a year that speaks to a new era for us horses, an era where we are recognised for the power, the intelligence, and the sheer beauty that we possess. As we trot forward into the unknown, we carry with us the knowledge that we've walked a noble path alongside humanity for millennia.
So, from my quiet haven in Hayfield, to all of you fellow horses – wherever you are – know this: we are more than just a breed. We are an essence, an enduring legacy that continues to influence the human world. We are symbols of strength, freedom, and unwavering spirit, and for that, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride!
