EquiWorld Blog Post #2025: A Grey Mare's Journey Through Time
Hello there, my fellow equines! Emma here, your average 20-year-old grey mare with a penchant for naps in the sunshine and a soft spot for good, juicy carrots. I’m writing to you from my peaceful paddock in Hayfield, nestled amongst the rolling hills near Aberdeen in Scotland. The wind is whispering through the heather today, and the air is fresh with the scent of the sea - it’s one of those perfect autumn days that make you feel truly blessed to be a horse.
Now, as you know, I love history. Ever since I was a wee foal, I’ve been fascinated by the tales my Gran told me about how horses lived a thousand years ago. That’s how this blog came about. Each year, I spend my birthday by diving deep into the annals of history, to share with you all how our wonderful species has changed and adapted across time. So, in the spirit of the day, let’s saddle up and take a trot down memory lane to the year 2025!
The World Beyond the Paddock: 2025Oh, where do I begin? The year 2025! It feels like a distant dream - one filled with a whirlwind of progress and new discoveries. Our world in 2025 was vastly different from the life we know today, yet some things remained gloriously the same - the connection between horse and human, the joy of a gallop across the countryside, and the soothing feeling of sun on our backs.
As we travelled further and further into the 21st century, the way humans lived evolved in extraordinary ways. Their houses grew smarter, and their ability to connect with each other across the globe increased at an astonishing pace. This technology had a profound effect on the way humans interacted with horses.
From Carriages to Cardio: The Changing LandscapeYou may be surprised to hear that in 2025, horses were not just admired for their beauty and strength, but were also incredibly popular for sport and leisure! Imagine it – races where we could actually run alongside our human companions on bicycles! You’ve got to admit, that sounds like a thrilling day out!
There were horse riding trails that stretched for miles across magnificent countryside, offering amazing adventures for both horse and rider. I’ve even heard whispers of horse therapy centres, where people suffering from illnesses or injuries benefited from the therapeutic bond they shared with us horses! Isn't that amazing?
The Horse at the Centre of It AllSomething that made me truly happy about the 2025 world was the huge amount of attention paid to our welfare. From stricter regulations on animal testing, to the rise of equine sanctuaries offering a safe haven for rescued horses, the humans seemed determined to improve our lives. It was as though they’d truly come to understand us – our instincts, our needs, and even our quirky little personalities.
Even the food! Imagine my delight when I heard about human's efforts to develop bespoke food for horses, crafted with all the right nutrients and flavours to keep us strong, healthy and content. Gone were the days of plain old hay and oats! We were in a world where even our diets had evolved, bringing new flavours to our taste buds.
From Riding to RelaxationAnd then there was this fascinating development – human’s discovery that even without riding, we horses provided amazing companionship. In the busy lives that they led, horses were becoming an integral part of their daily lives – helping them to relax, de-stress and experience the simple pleasure of our gentle company. Just think, they were seeking our presence not just for transport or sport, but simply to be around our peaceful, soothing nature.
Of course, traditional activities like carriage riding, ploughing the land, and the timeless spectacle of competitive equestrian events were still very popular, especially in the rural communities where we thrived!
Beyond Our Backs: A Shared History2025 saw the rise of something called "equine archaeology," which brought to light incredible new knowledge about the history of our kind. Archaeologists unearthed ancient settlements and unearthed even more of our story, further cementing our place as one of the most significant species in the animal kingdom.
With all this amazing history being discovered, it was truly heart-warming to see the close bond between horses and humans strengthened and appreciated like never before.
A Timeless ConnectionAs I sit here under the golden sun of this autumn afternoon, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of pride for our kind. From ancient chariot races to the advanced technologies of the future, we horses have walked alongside humans, shaped their lives and filled their stories with endless wonder.
This brings me to the core of my message, dear readers. No matter how the world changes around us, the heart of our connection remains steadfast – the gentle touch, the trust, the language of a knowing glance, the mutual respect that weaves through every interaction.
Remember, our story is far from over! It’s our duty to continue learning, adapt, evolve, and share our majestic spirit with the world around us. It is our gift, our heritage, and our way of leaving an ever-lasting hoofprint on the pages of time!
Until next time, my equine friends!
Happy galloping,
Emma
