History of Horses in the year 2028

Equiworld.org - Horse History Blog - Post #2028

Welcome to my blog, fellow equines and horse lovers! I'm Emma, a 20-year-old grey draught mare with a heart as big as my strong, powerful frame. My white mane and tail are a constant source of amusement to the youngsters, and while my coat may be a little peppered with grey now, my spirit is as bright and shiny as the day I was foaled. Today, I'm going to share some of my thoughts and observations on the wonderful world of horses in this year, 2028.

Now, as a horse born and raised in the glorious highlands of Hayfield, near Aberdeen in Scotland, you might think I'd have a pretty straightforward life. The crisp air, rolling green fields, and endless skies certainly contribute to a sense of peace. We are known for our gentle and dependable temperament, you see, the perfect draught horses for the Scottish farmers who have trusted us for generations. However, you'd be surprised at how much the world of horses has changed, even in just the past few decades!

New Horizons and Emerging Disciplines:

Let's talk about new trends. One of the most fascinating things I've noticed is the emergence of equine assisted therapy. It's lovely to see horses being used to help humans in new and beautiful ways. Not just physically but also emotionally and psychologically. The gentle giants of the equine world are proving their capacity to heal and inspire in the most heartwarming way. This past year, I had the pleasure of meeting a mare who helped autistic children connect with the world. It was magical, a testament to the special bond between horses and humans.

We've always known horses can learn, adapt, and excel in a variety of disciplines. This year has brought about exciting new disciplines like "Parkour with Horses," which I found most amusing to watch! It was like a delightful dance between the horses' strength and grace, jumping over obstacles and scaling heights with remarkable athleticism. My old bones are not built for that, I admit, but watching the young, agile steeds leap and twist makes my heart soar!

Speaking of new developments, "The Equine Olympics" was held in London this year! I couldn't be there, sadly, as old bones get a little sore with travelling, but I watched the thrilling competitions on my favourite TV channel – Equine Network. It was an incredible display of skill and coordination! Watching those young horses performing amazing feats in showjumping, dressage, and eventing truly showcased the exceptional talent of both horse and rider. The world was watching, celebrating the beauty and power of these extraordinary animals.

The Horse’s Best Friend - Technology:

Something I haven't gotten used to is the new horse-friendly tech. Imagine this - they've invented these tiny trackers that fit right on our halters. It keeps track of everything from our daily steps and health indicators to our emotional wellbeing. It's amazing! We can monitor our activity levels and even send signals to our human companions if we need some attention or a snack. These advances are incredible. We can also get customised feed recommendations, track our sleeping patterns, and receive detailed updates about our health!

Of course, some horses are hesitant about all this technology. They can be stubborn creatures after all! But as someone who has lived through many technological advances, I can appreciate the convenience. And as for me, it makes me feel a little like I’m living in the future – which is actually not as bad as I thought it would be.

Horseback Riding - From the Past and into the Future

My human friend, Moira, keeps me occupied with light trail riding in the nearby countryside. We often take long walks by the coast, and it feels good to get some sunshine on my coat and fresh sea air in my lungs. I have always enjoyed trail riding. It’s been an important part of our connection with humans since time immemorial. This is something that hasn’t changed much at all.

I think of the stories from my elders, and the history of our lineage as horses – how we have been companions, providers, and partners in countless adventures. The way we used to carry heavy burdens, travel across vast lands, and contribute to human lives in a practical and deeply meaningful way. While our roles have shifted, I still feel that connection to our ancient heritage. We've always been resilient, adaptable creatures, and the changes that are happening in the world haven’t diminished that at all.

Preserving Our Legacy:

Despite all the advances and changing trends, I'm always happy to be in my beloved stable in Hayfield. My heart belongs here. The scent of hay, the sounds of the countryside, and the familiar faces of the other horses provide a constant sense of peace and comfort. We horses, even in this bustling and ever-evolving world, hold on to certain traditions and values.

This year has seen a renewed focus on horse welfare. Organizations dedicated to protecting horses and providing them with proper care and shelter are increasing their efforts and raising awareness about their noble mission. I think that's beautiful. And more important than ever. We horses are so precious and unique! We play a vital role in this world and need to be protected.

The Beauty of Equine Bonds

More than anything, it is our bond with humans that has endured the ages. Our human friends come from all walks of life, sharing a common passion for these gentle giants. They come in all ages, shapes, and sizes. And from every part of the globe, each drawn to horses in their own way. Whether it’s the connection forged on a trail ride, the respect shared during a dressage performance, the sheer joy of a spirited gallop in the field, or simply the comfort of having a horse as a loyal friend, it’s something truly special. This human-horse connection will continue to thrive, regardless of the technological advancements, new disciplines, or evolving ways of life.

It's a remarkable time to be a horse, isn't it? We are a constant presence, forever linked to humanity. As a grey draught horse born in the heart of Scotland, I feel deeply proud to be part of this journey, and I can't wait to see what wonders the future holds for my fellow horses and humans! Until next time, keep those tails swishing, hooves stomping, and spirits high!
