It’s time for some serious reflection on the recent World Equestrian Games. The games were a showcase of incredible talent, but we saw too much evidence of horses in pain and discomfort. There was even an incident of a horse being pulled from a competition after displaying signs of stress and fear. It is clear that our industry needs to do better in terms of horse welfare, moving from the archaic mindset of “just a beast of burden”, towards a more humane, empathetic approach.
