The week at Hickstead has been full of nail-biting competition, and this year's Longines Royal International Horse Show certainly didn't disappoint. The £145,000 Longines King George V Gold Cup concluded on Sunday with a tense jump-off, with 25-year-old Irish rider, Michael Pender, securing the win aboard HHS Calais, adding yet another impressive win to his already impressive showjumping resume. Pender’s winning time was a rapid 44.96 seconds. A close second place went to Britain's Joe Stockdale, on the magnificent Equine America, just a fraction behind with a time of 44.99 seconds.
Dressage: Olympic Debutants Shine at Tokyo
The Tokyo Olympic Games has delivered some incredible moments in dressage, with a fierce competition among the best riders in the world. Charlotte Dujardin, the reigning Olympic Champion, unfortunately missed out on gold this year, placing 4th aboard her exceptional horse Gio, but it was a magnificent display from the 36-year-old rider, who holds the highest ever dressage score in Olympic history.
Instead, the top spot went to the ever-talented Jessica von Bredow-Werndl from Germany, who was paired with her magnificent stallion, TSF Dalera BB. Their freestyle score, a remarkable 91.734, cemented their position atop the podium, with an incredible 14-point lead. The 36-year-old Von Bredow-Werndl, making her Olympic debut, showcased masterful partnership and skill. Another impressive debutant, the reigning European Champion, Isabell Werth, secured a silver medal with her impressive mare, Weihegold OLD, after an equally exceptional freestyle performance. This incredible pairing secured their seventh Olympic medal, solidifying Werth's place as a legendary figure in the world of dressage.
