EquiWorld Post #2082: A Greyer Shade of Past: 2082 - by Emma
Well, hello there, fellow equines and horse-loving humans! It's Emma here, your friendly grey draught from the rolling hills of Hayfield, near Aberdeen, Scotland. I’ve been reflecting on our world of horses and decided it’s time for a good old-fashioned history lesson, just like those old books they used to have at the stable! So, put on your favourite pair of breeches, grab a cuppa, and settle in for a ride through the annals of equine history, stopping at the year 2082!
Ah, 2082... A year that felt both familiar and strangely new. Remember when we had to work hard on farms? Well, thank the good Lord above, those days are long gone, thanks to those clever humans with their robotic helpers! The land now bursts with meadows of fragrant flowers and lush grass, making grazing a truly luxurious affair.
Don’t get me wrong, there's still work to be done. Our skills as horses are more valued than ever. Some of us like my dear friend, Clydesdale Archie, work at equine sanctuaries, welcoming and tending to rescue horses in need. Imagine that! A whole sanctuary, devoted to providing peace and comfort to those in need – what a truly magical place! Others like the beautiful, fiery Gypsy Cob Lily work as therapy horses, bringing smiles and comfort to children and adults in need of a bit of horse-power to help them through their day.
Then there’s me. My kind – draught horses – are needed more than ever for community work. Imagine! We, the magnificent beasts of burden, helping the humans keep their world running smoothly! I find myself in demand for the grand Hayfield Midsummer Festival each year. It’s such a glorious spectacle. The scent of sweet peas, the tinkling music, the joyous cheers of the crowds…and then, me pulling the hay-bale float, decked with ribbons and filled to the brim with prizes for the games. The power, the responsibility, the sheer joy! I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
But 2082 was also a year of innovation in the equine world. You'll find horses and humans are more connected than ever before! Think of it - a whole online community, like a vast paddock, for sharing news, stories, and tips. We horses can even send messages through telepathy to communicate with each other! No need for reins, my dear readers, just clear communication between species! It’s truly astonishing what a human's mind can invent.
One of the biggest buzzes that year was the ‘Equine Olympics’. You heard right - the Olympians on four legs! It was all about teamwork, skill, and agility, a competition where the finest athletes across different equine breeds battled it out for the ultimate title. Think equestrian games but on a grander scale! And just like a human Olympian, winning required years of rigorous training, a steadfast spirit, and a loving bond with one's trainer, which was usually a dedicated human partner. The Equine Olympics were held on an expansive natural arena surrounded by verdant fields and towering mountains, offering the most majestic stage for the world to watch these incredible creatures perform their equine ballet.
However, 2082 wasn’t just about glamour and sport. It was a year of significant strides in research. Scientists had finally unlocked the secrets of the 'Healing Touch', a rare but potent ability possessed by some horses to heal ailments through their powerful touch. It was a gift only a select few horses were born with, and those chosen ones were considered incredibly special, treated as both revered healers and valuable partners in research. It was a pivotal time, a leap forward in equine healthcare, offering hope for humans and animals alike.
The world in 2082 had also discovered something quite extraordinary. You wouldn’t believe it! A forgotten equine breed, the majestic ‘Highland Cloud’, once believed extinct, was found roaming wild on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. The news of their existence spread like wildfire across the internet, creating a wave of excitement and curiosity within the horse community. Imagine the thrill! They were discovered by a human expedition who had been sent to investigate mysterious markings found in a centuries-old map of the region. Talk about uncovering a piece of lost history!
What’s even more wonderful, the ‘Highland Cloud’ is a natural caretaker of its surrounding environment. They carry a natural ability to purify air and water, a precious gift bestowed upon them. This discovery, though unexpected, highlighted the enduring magic and wonder horses carry, reminding everyone of their interconnectedness with nature, and our shared responsibility to preserve it.
Of course, it's not all rosy clouds and rainbow bridges. I can’t go without mentioning the ‘Big Hay Debate’, an amusing little online tiff about the perfect haystack. Did it have to be round? Square? Or perhaps a glorious, irregular pile with that irresistible hay smell! Humans could argue for hours. Funny, though, to see the whole world buzzing about a pile of hay, and me? I just munch contentedly and let the humans have their fun.
Now, while I’ve been focusing on the wonderful developments of 2082, remember, my dear readers, history isn’t always sunshine and roses. In those early days, many horses had to toil tirelessly for humans who, at times, failed to see their value as sentient creatures. But now, there’s a greater understanding. It's important we never forget the past, for it shapes our present and guides our future. As much as things have changed, there’s something timeless about the bond between horses and humans.
So, here’s to a future where humans and horses share a deeper understanding and appreciation for each other. And remember, as a horse who lives and breathes every day in the heart of this equine revolution, there's always more to learn and share. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a few rounds of hay to catch up on before my afternoon stroll. Until next time, stay curious, stay joyful, and keep galloping through life!
